VII of Cups: The Stuff that dreams are made of !

The Seven of Cups has had a rough time of it in our hard nosed society. This from the Robin Wood: Overactive Imagination. Inability to choose a path or a goal. Dreaming instead of acting. Head in the Clouds. Illusion. Then Finally A Mystical experience, positive visualization. Then the Reverse of the Card is: Determination, Strong Will, Action.

Dreams however are among the most powerful positive tools we have, they can be our lamp in hours of darkness guiding us to a better tomorrow. Eleanor Roosevelt said: The Future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their Dreams. While Dr King left an indelible mark on the Nation when he said: "I have a Dream that my four children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character."

Dreams are incredibly important, because they speak to our goals, and aspirations in life. Think of Hook, that modern fable of the Lawyer who perused the life he was supposed to want, and lost touch with his dreams. Take a look at Melanie's card. The character, gazes longingly at the cups chained to the tree. (The dreams that are going no where.) While paying no attention to the blessings in the cups at her feet. An echo of the 4 of cups. Sevens are powerful cards, they address change, opportunity and choices. The card asks us which cup are we reaching for ...

For the reader, context is important. The Difference between the Airy dreams, that make no impression on the world and Dr Kings Dream is Context. A dream surrounded by wands and swords can be a powerful thing. It is a dream with the energy and insight to get where it wants to go in life. A dream surrounded by pentacles may have powerful barriers to overcome. I'm reminded of the movie Rudy, where the main character, all his life dreamed of playing football for Notre Dame, and all the well meaning, down to earth, pentacles people around him kept telling him, give it up your too small. In the end he only played one down on the field, but he learned the measure of himself as a man. He made a mark that cannot be measured in touchdowns. Finally a dream surrounded by cups, may drown in fantasy, or it may simply be waiting, safe, in the warm underdark, for its moment of emergence. Remember your moon card! The next time you draw a VII of Cups for a Querent ask them about their dreams. It seems to me that a fairly conventional description of the D/R of the card is in keeping with Melanies drawing, and so I have chosen to go with that description of keywords below.

Divination: Dreamer, Illusionary Success, Oppertunities Overlooked, Fantasy, Stagnation Daydream.

Reversed:Mystical experience, Visionary Qualities, Determination, A heartfelt goal. A dream that can become reality.
