Signs of the TimesRay Grasse, author of Signs of the Times, had a truly fascinating conversation with Whitley a couple weeks back. It is currently posted in the subscriber section of Unknown country. Ray is thoughtful, soft-spoken, but quietly very sure of himself and his knowledge. A regular contributor to the Mountain Astrologer, Ray is wonderful example of the best sort of practitioner of divination. I think you'll find his vision of our future wonderful listening.

Personally, I think this is a wonderful card, the young Nagual who first appears as the fool, is contemplating a sacred mountain in the distance. A pair of eagles circle the mountain. Beneath and overcast sky, a rain bow rises up in the distance from the deep background as you look past the Nagual's face into the sky.

The Six's to my mind speak of discovering one's balance and one's self after the struggles one experience in the fives. Of all the cards in Melanie's deck, I think this card expresses that idea best. I see the Numerology of the Tarot of a rhythm of challenge and balance. After each period of challenge, the seeker finds a new, more profound balance as s/he integrate the experiences they have endured into themselves. I really feel Mel has achieved capturing such a moment with this card. One can share in the Nagual's feeling of Awe at natures majesty, Oneness with Creation, and alignment to the intent.

I think most of us have experienced these moments. For me, ironically, the one's I remember most vividly occurred while I was in service, and serving in combat arms. I remember one twilight in particular. Our tank battalion was on a gunnery exercise, and we had been firing up targets all day. There came a moment, where for no explicable reason, I took a step back in my minds eye. I was no longer looking in the direction of the mountain, but really looking at it in the distance. I remember thinking about all the hundreds and ultimately thousands of rounds, we had thrown at it over the years as battalion after battalion came to hold exercises on its slopes. And I remember feeling suddenly how small we where in its shadow. Just then I noted the presence of a cloud, and I could see how it in generations past might have been seen as a trimine of the gods. A great battle seemed to be about to unfold between the Gods of the Sky and the Giant of the Earth. The very heart of the Greek and Norse myths, at that moment I could understand the inspiration of their bards.

Man has since the dawn of time, contrived to justify placing himself in the center of the universe. Whether it is that God has made himself in our image. Or given his only begotten son for our salvation, or the new anthropic argument, that we create reality by perceiving it reality. That awe inspiring mountain, only exits because we call it out of possibility and into reality through our perception. I think at moments the only thing in existence that is greater than god is the human ego.

Yet it is at moments like Mel has depicted so well here, when we realize the immeasurable majesty of creation, and by extension how tiny we really are in comparison, that we really feel closest to god. At least that has been my experience. If we could only hold on that moment, what a world we could live in and leave for our children. How easy it would be to set aside our ego's. To give thanks for being part of creation, rather than try and twist creation into our service.

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving, a day for giving thanks for what ever bounty has blessed our lives. A moment to celebrate the fruits of our labors, and the victories that are a more traditional reading of the Six of Wands. I see it also, as an opportunity, to humbly give thanks for being part of Gods great vision. Even if personally one does not have much, or as one gazes into the future, one sees s/he still has a rather rocky row to hoe. We are also part of a small part of greater work, of infinite beauty.

Blessed Be, your holiday my friends. BB.
