GIRL'S ROOM
"Girl's Room" deals with the relationships of three generations of women as they examine their lives and expectations. It presents a roller coaster of emotions never before expressed by these family members, and the results are both humorous and moving.
The youngest of the three generations, Katie Silver, is played by Shelby Larson. Katie is a young dancer who is recovering from an injury which will probably end her career. As she recovers at home, she is comforted and confronted by her mother, Marilyn Silver, played by Vanessa Larson, and her grandmother Florence Gorman, played by Kay Clark. As the play progresses the audience realizes that a deep schism is present between mother and daughter and that this same division exists between the older women. All must struggle to heal and move forward.
The dramedy takes place in Katie's bedroom---'girl's room', a title whose significance becomes evident as the play progresses to its conclusion. As these women share memories, heartbreak, and joy, the audience is drawn into a family whose emotions and secrets are laid bare.
This cast shares more than just the parts they portray onstage in this production. They are actually three generations of one family----grandmother, mother, and daughter.
"Girl's Room" is directed by Julia Hinson. Stage manager is Jane Keller; Jack Hogston is in charge of set design and construction; Jordan Sutherland is sound designer; Mark Ferrill is lighting designer and light and sound board operator; Carole Zacek is costumer; Curtis Leach is in charge of props.
"Girl's Room" is one of several plays by women to be presented in the Omaha/Council Bluffs area during the 2011--12 theatre season. The National Theatre Conference is encouraging regional theatres to stage works written by women, and the BLT is proud to be a part of this movement.
