Zachary Taylor

I visited Zachary Taylor in Louisville, Kentucky on July 5, 2004. We left Corydon, Indiana for the long drive home at 8:30 a.m., which was a little later then I wanted. I was worried the Zachary Taylor National Cemetery would be closed. Their website said they are closed on national holidays and with the Fourth of July being on Sunday, I was concerned the the 5th would be the recognized holiday and I'd be out of luck. We got to the cemetery about 9:00 a.m. and the gates were open! The tomb is easy to find (there is only one road.) The cemetery is immaculately kept and very peaceful. There is something about National Cemeteries that gives me goosebumps. All the stones are in uniform, perfect alignment, and the people buried there deserve our thanks and gratitude for the sacrifices they made for us and our country.
