Classmate PC pictures, part I
As promised, here is the first batch of pictures of the Classmate PC. On this delivery I am trying to give you a good idea of the physical size of the notebook. I am comparing it to my hands, a simple cell phone and one IBM Thinkpad T60. Please note that the Classmate PC is much smaller than the regular notebook.
The Classmate PC is a fully featured PC for Children targeted at Emerging Markets. It is a very interesting device for Children's Education. The PC can run either on Windows or Linux and its storage is done on flash memory (several GB of memory, depending on the needs). It is highly portable and designed to be easily carried by children at school or after school as they go home. Any questions, just let me know.
In the next delivery I will go for screen shots and talk about my experience using the device. If anybody wants to use the pictures below, just provide a link and proper credit as per the Creative Commons license that applies to this blog.

A closer look at the keyboard and the mouse of the Classmate PC.

My hands are too big for this notebook designed for Children.

Here is a simple Nokia phone standing next to the Classmate PC.

The two notebooks side by side. Please note that the Classmate PC has a leather case and a handle when its folded. This is for ease of transportation by the kids.

This will solve one problem at school. At least this is not like 7 to 8 books to weight down the kid.
However with the copyright of digital eqipment how will the school system get away with making digital copies of copyrite material ?

It looks pretty awesome. I wonder what will be the business model to sell this one. Open to everyone?

Wow will this be sold to regular consumers also? I would love to have one

Wontoncookie,
Many Ministeries of Education have copyright agreements with major publishers. That should not be a problem at all.

Talya, Mark,
This is targeted at schools (private and public) in emerging markets. Very likely to be sold to institutions or to Parents at those schools.
The hardware to be useful needs to be linked to great eduicational content and connectivity to that content. Selling them to consumers without a good content strategy is probably not that useful.

This sounds like a great little piece of hardware. But can it be made to run Mac OS X? Apple offered to give Mac OS X to the OLPC project. Wouldn't it be fun for "microsoft's answer to the OLPC" to run Mac OS X?
Yes, I see that it can run Linux, too. That's cool, but for running applications aimed at kids, Linux isn't exactly the first choice. Or is there a project to generate a few hundred educational titles for Linx on this thing?

i want that how much is it and where can i find it

Laird: This is not "Microsoft's answer". I don't know if Mac OS X can be run on a relatively small space of a few Gigabytes. Also, as it is publicly known, Apple is not licensing its OS to other OEMs.
Angelo: It should hit the market below $300 (depending on the tax structure on each country). It is not available yet on retail for you to purchase it.

What? No Shift / Alt / CTRL keys on the right-side? They are going to scar the kid's typing skills for life! Other than that, the aesthetics look very nice.
