Join the Latin America Blogroll

Keith from The Temas Blog and myself just started an effort to bring the best Latin American Blogs into a Blogroll.  We want to be able to capture the best blogs with a regional focus so we can showcase the  best talent and help each other.  If you author a Latin American blog and want your blog to appear here, this post will tell you how to do it.

First of all, your blog has to cover Latin American issues.  Blogs written by Latin Americans but not focused on regional issues will not be considered.  The blog can be on Spanish, Portuguese or English.  The blog cannot sponsor any type of derogatory, hate or sexual material.  All blogs are evaluated before they are allowed to join the blogroll.

The first blogs that join the blogroll have a saying on new members.  We are focused on quality so we will not accept all the blogs that are submitted.  Our goal is to have a blogroll of a manageable size, which we estimate to be around 30 blogs.  All members on the blogroll need to publish the list on their sites.

If you want to join us just leave us a comment with the following fields:

  • Name of the Blog
  • URL
  • Brief description
  • WHy do you want to join?

Hello,

I'm not sure if you would consider my Blog as a Latin American Blog because it falls somewhere in between. My Blog, FrontChih.com is about the immigration debate from the perspective of someone who lives and works on the border between the United States and Mexico, El Paso and Cd. Juarez to be exact. It is a new Blog that I just launched. I am interested in joining your Blog Roll. Thank you for your consideration.

Martín

Good project Ricardo, and good luck.

I suggest something:
You are focus on quality, in the quality of the content. It's right, the content is the most important thing in a website/blog, but the code (someone said "code is poetry") is important too.
A valid site is a better site.

Sure. As you know, I'm a political science professor who focuses on Latin America. My blog (Two Weeks Notice) focuses on Latin American politics and immigration. The more debate, the better.

I'm part of a group blog called 'De la República'. It's a Chilean blog which discusses mostly national politics. All of us are relatively young people with no party affiliation but progressive.

The URL is: http://blog.delarepublica.cl

Your idea of having a continent-wide dialog sounds fascinating, as I personally find it difficult to go through all the blogs in Latin America to find people doing something similar to what we're trying to do with La República. I think it would be great to have a mega-blog where people can go and find discussions about different countries, which I suspect would generate interesting comparisons and across-the-borders dialog.

Cheers.

Martin, Carlos,

I will consider a "Latin American" blog a blog that focused on region-wide issues. I am getting feedback of country-focused or sub-regional focused blogs that want to go in. Let me see what kind of solution I can find. Maybe we can have two blogrolls: one for blogs that cover Latin America and one for country and regional focused blogs. How does that sound to you?

By the way, the idea of the Latin American megablog sounds great. We should consider that for implementation.

Greg,

Your blog is a great example of a region-wide Latin American blog. I will go ahead and add you after checking with Keith. I will send you the code of the Blogroll via e-mail.

Ricardo, if we go for a second country-oriented blogroll, I know many, many good names to add to that list. Would it include the Caribbean states as well (hope so)? I know several good ones there too. By comparison building that list would be easy; it's much harder to find regional-focussed blogs, and harder still to find good ones.

I like the idea of a megablog, although question is how best to implement one and to ensure that the stress on quality remains. Do it ourselves? Do it through an existing mechanism, such as Zimbio or Squiddo (or one of the many others I have not yet encountered or explored)? Maybe we should only solicit ideas here and in other forums...just a thought.

Best Regards,
Keith

Ricardo,

Thank you. The idea of a "megablog" sounds like a good choice. I have a pseudo blog roll called BorderBlogs.com focused on border issue blogs, although it includes links to regional blogs ones such as yours. Eventually I'll get around to cleaning it up a bit and adding more border specific links. Please let me know if there is anything I can help with.

Thanks for contact me. After working in five countries as a journaist I find your global approach and your disparate experience impressive, and look forward to learning from you. I trust that many women outside the U.S. want to share tips at SavvyHer when it launches next month and look forward to collabrating with you. See sayitbetter.com for my background.

Hello, Ricardo!

I've found about your blog and this project on http://transcultural.wordpress.com/, and I would love to be a part of it. I have a blog - http://www.latinaviva.com - about Latin lifestyle, food, music and traditions, for the Latin women living in USA. It is pretty new (I started on November 1), but its readership is growing nicely.

I want to join the blogroll because I'm actively seeking new and good Latin American blogs, to recommend to my readers. I also want to meet Latin bloggers and blogs, and get in touch with people who share the same interests and topics as me.

I don't write much about politics, because there are so many excellent blogs out there, covering those issues. Latina viva is focused on the Latin culture, and I think it could be a nice addition to the blogroll. Thanks for considering my application.

PS - I also like the idea of the megablog.

Eliane,

Sounds like a great idea. I will check it our with Keith and let you know. Keep blogging!

I would be very much interested in this blog roll. I focus mainly on mainly on US born Latinos and immigrants/emigrants. Latin America is touched on from time to time.

It would be great to join here and have a greater outreach. I hope that you would find that my opinion on issues would foster a greater view and discussion.

Hello Ricardo.

Hi Ricardo,

I'm still working out some kinks, but my goal is to provide a daily digest of the best coverage of Latin America.

Hopefully I'm not too late to be considered.

Thanks!

Ricardo and Keith:

Great idea about the Latin America Blogroll.

I've had a blog, about Latin America, for the past 7 months. Here are the details.

Name of the Blog -InfoTimes

URL - www.infotimes.blogspot.com

Brief description

The aim of the blog is to promote a balanced view on critical topics concerning Latin America. The topics range from politics, history, economics and culture.

WHy do you want to join?

It's a good idea to build a network of information on Latin America, and I hope my blog can help in this effort.

Hi Ricardo and Keith.

I recently started a blog to complement the work I do as a fellow of Latin American Studies at the Council on Foreign Relations. It provides analysis of political and economic developments in Latin America.

www.latintelligence.com

It would be great to join with other bloggers interested in the region.

Thanks,
Shannon

Hello Riccardo!

I have just had email contact with Keith Ripley. I expressed to him my desire to increase visitors to my Latin American Blog. I set it up two months ago with the intention of expressing my own views and posting numerous articles looking at Latin American Issues. In October this year I will start my masters at the Institute for the Study of the Americas to do Latin American Studies so the volume of personal contributions to my site will grow. I would really like to be on your blogroll. During my masters I hope to encourage more British students and enthusiasts to discuss Latin America. I have recently started to draw on other interesting stories from other continents that could offer useful illustrations of potential improvements in Latin America (for example the article about the Rwandan Film Festival)

If you could let me know how the blogroll works I will link it on my blog with no hesitation.

Hope to hear from you soon.

Ben

very nice blog..

Hello Ricardo,
My blog, Fuego y Agua - Travels In Latin America, is still relatively new but I think it already has enough content to be considered for your Blog Roll. At the moment the bulk of the posts concern Brazil and Guatemala - and in particular an outsiders take on these two wonderful countries. However, the blog is a long term project and other countries will be added as I visit them. I'd greatly appreciate if you could take the time to review the blog and consider it for your Blog Roll.
Kind Regards, Matt

My blog, The New Market Machines, did not start having anything to do with Latin America. It started out as public note-taking and thinking out loud about enterprise technology Big Digs, tech journalism and tech PR, which was an interest of mine at the time. But when I moved to São Paulo with my wife, it inevitably started having to do more with the Latin America outside the window, especially when I resumed something I had done on an earlier blog (Blogalization): Translating the local press, just to keep in practice and keep track of things I find worthwhile reading in New World Lusophone (I work as a technical and financial translator and as a journalist). I have a lot of sympathy for and solidarity with Brazilian journalists (it sucks to be a Brazilian journalist; just ask my wife) and so often translate the raging debates on media concentration, social responsibility, and the more virulent forms of tropical Rupert Murdochism, pra ingês ver. I think blogging is a pointless thing to do, and tends to increase the amount of noise in the world. Ditto for reading blogs. But I do it anyway (write a blog; I hardly ever read any). Go figure.

Sounds like a good idea.

Brief description: I am a Fulbright research scholar studying the Uruguayan media. My blog covers Uruguayan and Southern Cone politics, culture and economics, and deals with broader Latin American trends as well.

Why do you want to join?: Although I have a core readership, I'd like my blog to become a place for the discussion of current events in the region. For that, I need to broaden my audience significantly. Your site will also offer my current readers an opportunity to discover other blogs that will no doubt interest them.

Thanks so much for your consideration.

thank you good site
