The Ethanol Diplomacy

This is perhaps one of the most exciting developments behind the George W Bush trip of Latin America this week.  One of the areas in which the US and Brasil can collaborate strongly for mutual benefit is on fuels.  Brasil is one of the largest producers of ethanol in the world (the other one is the US).  Brasilian production is more efficient given its usage of sugar cane, which has much better yields than corn.

Is this the beggining of energy integration in the Americas?

Making Ethanol Work Video

1 Here is a short video form GM and Medialink about how Ethanol works.  The video is focused on the country experiences of Brasil and Sweden on reducing their dependency on oil.  It is very nice to see GM investing on educating the public about Ethanol.

Off to see Al Gore tonight in Sao Paulo

1 I am off to see Al Gore at Ibirapuera Park here in Sao Paulo. He is here to deliver AmCham's ECO 2006 Award.  I hope there is good discussion on environmental issues.  There is a lot of expectation in the local press given Al Gore's presence.  He is currently enjoying a lot of recognition given his film An Inconvenient Truth (Movie, Book and soon in DVD). Expect some comment about the event tomorrow.

By the way, the book and the web site have impressive images about global warming effects.
