The Electric Girl (Skill Point Costs: Cyberpunk)

Total Character Points: 38
Total Skill Points: 20

Since infancy, Virginia has been able to release electrical charges from her body. As she grew up, her powers came in handy; she never had to look for the remote control as she could simply zap the TV from across the room to make it change the channel; she could recharge Gameboys and Walkmans for her friends, and her family never had to worry about a dead batteries in their cars or flashlights.

As if having the power to discharge electricity at will didn't make Virginia's life strange enough, a gremlin by the name of Oogleeoog has taken a shine to her, and he has been her constant companion since early childhood. Since he is invisible to everyone but Virginia, she can't tell anyone he exists without them thinking that maybe the electrical currents surging through her have fried her brain. As a result, when Oogleeoog decides to play tricks, Virginia or her pet dog Blammo must often take the blame for the chaos.

Special Attack: Electrical Bursts

Virginia has the ability to deliver electrical shocks to people and inanimate objects within her immedaite area. She can control the severity of shock delivered to as little as 5 points of damage, which is little more than  an irritant to her targets or enough to temporarily short out electronic equipment. Virginia's electrical attack operates off her Soul statistic, and when she is distraught, the difficulty to use it is increased by +2. When the weather is partiuclarly humid, the loses control of the power at random. (The GM rolls occassional checks. On an 11 or 12, Virginia delivers 5 points of damage to anything she touches for the next minute.)

Virginia's Electrical Burst: Damage 60. (Stun, Penetrating, Short Range, Stoppable (insulation from electricity)).

In the case of Oogleeoog, the term "servant" is strictly one of game mechanics. While he occasionally performs tasks as ordered by Virginia, he is very independent and will always follow what he considers to be the best course of action... as well as the course of action that will cause the most chaos.

By gremlin standards, Oogleeoog is soft-hearted and sentimental, showing concern both for the well-being of humans and fellow gremlins. Such sentimentality might impact his standing among gremlins if he wasn't such a master at spreading chaos even as he attempts to help those he likes. Oogleeoog is particularly fond of Virginia, and most of the tricks he plays on her are intended to teach her life lessons or to keep her out of serious trouble or danger.

Virginia, Oogleoog and Blammo all appear in Electric Girl. Eight issues of the of this fun comic book series have been collected in a pair of graphic novels available from Amazon.com. We recommend them highly to lovers of lighthearted comics. Writer/artist Michael Brennan deftly juggles a likable cast of characters around Virginia and her gremlin buddy, putting the Electric Girl in such varied situations as helping a zombie find final peace, helping the cops find a kidnapper, to battling a robot who has fallen in love with her nature as a source of unlimitd battery recharges. A particuarly appealing aspect of the stories is that despite the weirdness surrounding Virginia, there is a sense of normality and everyday life. It's nice to see a comic book with a "superpowered" character who gets along with her parents, is liked and admired by her friends, and doesn't spend half the pages complaining about how miserable she is. Electric Girl is delightfully low on angst.
