“Eye of Eko” funeral rite statue, Eko Hotel, Lagos, Nigeria

"Eyo of Eko" festival bronze statue, funeral rites for a deceased Oba (local chief).

The bronze statue at the reception of the Eko Hotel is named after the “Eyo of Eko” festival.

The statue plague states that such rituals are held during the funeral obsequis ( funeral rites) of a deceased Oba (local chief) by his successor before his coronation.

For Western people this may look like a sinister statue about something you don't want to be reminded off. In Africa, life and death are more natural, it just happens.
