Makalu Mountain, 8481 m, hit by the jet
stream.Sherpani Col (6100 m) is the far ridge. October, 2004.
This is a rare picture, the sky is absolute clear and Makula has a stratified cloud. This is caused by the jet stream causing a light clouds to form around it.
We were here in October 2004, standing on a plateau at 6100 m, on the so-called Ice Col route, the pass between the Makalu Basecamp and the Everest region. In the distance is the East Col, a 100 meter high ridge where we had to use ropes to get across.
