Sand dunes at the South-West edge of the Grand Erg Occidental. Men for scale. July 1975. See Google Panoramio for location .

Sand dunes, some 50 meter high, people for scale. The Grand Erg Occidental extends for several hundred kilometers and is located in the central-northern part of Algeria. Two main roads have been build around it as crossing the dunal area would be impossible.

We were on our way to Tamanrasset in Southern Algeria which has the famous black volcanic mountains of the Hoggar Massief.
